Although the model shown here differs in color and appearance, the process is the same.
With the printer turned on, open the paper tray and lift up from the paper tray area to open the top cover. A plastic lever will slide out on one side to keep the cover safely propped up.
When the carriage moves to the center, you will see two covers for the Canon MP480 ink cartridges. One is marked C for color and the other is marked B for black. Pinch the two handles toward each other to release the cover and lift it up, then pull out the cartridge.
Get the new PIXMA MP480 ink cartridge ready by taking it out of the box and removing the plastic bag. The printheads will be protected by either a small tape strip that you can pull to remove, or a plastic cover that has two handles on the top and bottom, simply pinch the handles toward each other to remove it.
Return to the printer and place the new Canon MP480 cartridge into the opening, then close the small cover. It should snap firmly into place.
Raise the top cover about an inch, then press backward on the lever so that it begins to fold as you lower the top cover slowly.
You are now ready to resume printing with your Canon PIXMA MP480 printer.
