MF5770
The Canon MF5770 is a multifunction monochrome laser printer designed for the home or small office user. Network support, fast speeds, and excellent text quality make it a great choice for a small office. For mid-level users, a model like the Dell 1720 that uses Dell 310-8709 toner is probably a better choice.
Unlike some other models in Canon's small office lineup, the MF5770 seems to be designed for a busy office than an individual. It has an automatic document feeder, which can hold up to 50 pages for automatic scanning, copying, or faxing. The unit can scan at up to 2400 dpi resolution, and there is also a flatbed scanning surface for originals that won't fit in the document feeder.
The Canon MF5770 has a built-in ethernet port for connecting and sharing it across a network of users. It functions quite well as a network printer, setting itself up on the network with an install routine. Copying and faxing can be done standalone from the control panel of the unit. Strangely, the imageClass MF5770 doesn't support network scanning. Scanning must be done to a computer directly connected by USB cable. This is a feature available in most multifunction units with networking support.
The Canon MF5770 toner cartridge has a capacity of 2,500 pages. The single MF5770 toner cartridge is very easy to replace from the front of the unit. Although the Canon MF5770 toner cartridge is fairly affordable, users may want to use third-party compatible cartridges instead of the OEM MF5770 toner cartridges, which can be significantly less expensive. In general, though, the MF5770 cartridges are much more affordable than competitor products like Okidata 43459301 toner.
Print speed is fast, at around 21 pages per minute, which is also the print speed of copies and faxes, minus scanning and transmission times. Text quality is excellent, with sharp and detailed characters even at small font sizes. Graphics quality is about average for a laser printer. For color graphics, take a look at the Xerox 6125 and its needed Xerox 106R01331 toner.
Overall, the Canon MF5770 will best fit a small office of network users who need a network printer with faxing, copying, and scanning capabilities. Lack of network scanning could be a small issue.
