The Canon imageCLASS MF4890dw multifunction printer has essentially the same features as the lower models in its series, but adds a larger automatic document feeder that can hold up to 50 sheets and supports duplex scanning to go along with the duplex printing feature. It can print and copy at speeds of up to 26 pages per minute, and includes faxing and scanning functions. Canon MF4890dw printer toner isn't as affordable as larger laser models, but is much more cost-effective than the average inkjet.
The MF4890 is clearly designed for a home or small office, given its fairly small frame. It is also a bit limited in capacity, with only 250 sheets of input paper in the main tray. This will limit its use to a small number of users and low volumes, but it includes both wired and wireless support for sharing across the network. The quiet mode feature is a nice touch, considering it will likely be operating in close proximity to users in a small space, though it does reduce the machine's speed somewhat. A toner save mode is also available to reduce the amount of Canon MF4890dw toner used per page.
The control panel flips downward out of the way when the device is not in use, reducing the space required, and the automatic document feeder tray can also fold down. The control panel itself is a bit basic, with only a 5-line LCD screen, but this should be adequate for light use, and helps to keep the purchase price more affordable.
Buyers will find the cost of toners fairly affordable, though the OEM Canon MF4890dw toner cartridges may not be the best option. In fact, compatible imageCLASS MF4890dw toner is often a fraction of the cost, reducing the cost per page significantly. Unlike the starter supply, the full-size imageCLASS MF4890dw toner cartridge can provide up to 2,100 pages.
As the most full-featured model in its series, the addition of a larger, duplexing ADF is likely to appeal to certain buyers. Those who can do without this upgrade might be wise to choose the MF4770n or MF4880dw models at a lower price, however.

With wireless networking and duplexing features, the Canon MF4890dw is a very capable multifunction laser printer. It can scan, copy, and fax, with a 35-sheet automatic document feeder for faster scanning of large jobs. Its print speed of 26 pages per minute should be adequate for the average small office.
Although the model shown differs in appearance, the process is the same.
Start by raising the access panel from underneath the control panel area, then lift from the small handle to raise the toner panel. You will see the Canon MF4890dw toner cartridge in the opening. Look for the small handle and pull it out of the printer.
You will need to take the new imageCLASS MF4890dw cartridge out of its box, and set aside the bubble wrap and the plastic bag. Rock the cartridge back and forth a few times to help the toner inside loosen and redistribute itself.
Remove the packing tape inside by placing a finger inside the loop and pulling it straight out. The black paper is inserted to protect the drum. Pull it in the direction of the arrow to remove it as well.
Slide the Canon MF4890dw cartridge into the opening of the printer, with the handle facing toward you, and lower it until it settles firmly into place. Lower the toner panel first, then slowly close the access panel, ensuring that it doesn’t slam shut.
You are now ready to resume printing with your Canon imageCLASS MF4890dw printer.
