The Canon LC730 laser printer is designed for the small or medium office environment. It is a full-featured fax machine with printing capabilities and some of the lowest toner costs available. Other units, like the Konica Minolta 4230 that uses Konica-Minolta 1710587-006 toner, are much more expensive to maintain.
The Canon LC730 laser printer comes in two configurations. The LC730 is the base model, and the LC730i adds internet faxing capabilities, as well as network sharing. With internet faxing, the unit can send and receive faxes over the internet just as it would over a phone line, with no difference from the user perspective. This is an excellent way to benefit from the speed of internet faxing, without having to teach users a new way to fax.
The unit has a paper capacity of 600 sheets, divided among two 250-sheet trays that both support up to legal size paper, and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray for alternate media types. It also has a 3-hour battery backup built in, allowing it to send and receive faxes for up to 3 hours without power. A 70-sheet automatic document feeder makes it easy to send multiple pages quickly and easily. Users can even add a second modem as an upgrade option.
Canon LC730 toner cartridges incorporate a single cartridge design that includes both the toner and the drum in a single unit. Each laser toner cartridge has a capacity of 4,500 pages. The printer toner cartridge is very easy to access and replace. If more pages are needed per cartridge, perhaps trade out for a model that uses Dell 310-8096 toner.
Print quality is generally very good, with sharp text that is very readable at small font sizes. Graphics quality is average, but could be better. Print speed is fast, at up to 19 pages per minute, though faxes will be limited by transmission speeds. For color graphics, try a model that uses Okidata 42127404 toner.
Overall, the Canon LC730 is an impressive fax machine that also functions quite well as a laser printer. The internet faxing enabled model is a nice touch, and is a step toward the future.
