The Canon L400 is a monochrome multifunction fax machine and printer. It is a very well-designed fax machine, and even functions well as a laser printer and lightweight copy machine. Lack of scanning may be an issue for some buyers. For a model that focuses more on printing than anything else, take a look at something that uses Samsung ML-2010D3 toner.
The L400 is first and foremost a fax machine. Its design and integration of parts all seem to be centered around its fax functionality. Consequently, the L400 has nearly every feature one would expect of a fax machine. Its 50-page automatic document feeder allows for up to 50 pages to be scanned at once. It has a 256 page memory that can store faxes, even when you run out of paper. The L400 can transmit and receive faxes at up to 36.6 kbps with its Super G3 integration.
The L400 is a fairly capable copy machine as well, but is probably not suited to users who need to do a lot of copying. Its copying features are limited to just the basics, and not as easily accessible as faxing. The L400 is a better choice for users who need mainly a fax machine, and only wish to make copies occasionally.
Canon L400 toner cartridges are the FX-8 model cartridge. These cartridges are relatively inexpensive, like Dell 330-1436 toner, which results in a low cost per page. The Canon L400 toner cartridges have a capacity of 3,500 pages. To reduce the cost per page even more, the L400 has a Toner Save mode, which reduces the amount of toner used per page.
