Photography shops and professional photographers would do well to consider the Canon BJC8200 printer for their photo print needs. This printer is designed for photo lab quality prints. It is not designed to print text. Being relatively small sizewise, it will fit where larger machines will not. It will crank out a 4" x 6" print in less than a minute and 8" x10 prints in about three minutes. This unit is probably not attractive for home use like units with Canon BCI-15BK inkas the BJC8200 is more suited for graphic artists and photo specialists.
Using inkjet technology, this printer will deliver fast prints at up to 1200 x 1200 dpi. This ensures quick turnaround in commercial environments. It is designed for 8.5" width media including plain, high definition paper, glossy photo stock, 4" x 6", 4" x 8" and transparencies. The print head utilizes the same color cartridges as many of the other color inkjet printers but lacks the larger capacity black ink cartridge on the others. Higher yielding options for other models include HP 564XL Black ink.
There are both USB and parallel interfaces on this unit that enable those with older computers the ability to hook up. Windows 95 and up and most Mac users will have no problem setting up this printer. Simple setup software guides you through the installation process.
PC Magazine reviewed this unit and described it as "too specialized for home use" and commented that the alignment process can be difficult without magnification. Wiki Reviews said that for a "$300 street" printer it performed exceptionally well. They reiterated that this was a printer that would make a good addition to a small operation to make fast quality photo prints when a small batch is called for.
The upside to this printer is that it is a reasonably priced, speedy workhorse of a printer sturdily built to satisfy a need in photo and graphic art shops. For text, another type of printer should be considered, inlduing Brother printers featuring Brother LC51C ink.
