In the mid-nineties, Canon began selling its Bubble Jet BJC-70 printer. Designed to be light and compact, its purpose was envisioned as a portable printer for those who need to use a printer while on the road. With a weight of a little more than three pounds and dimensions of 12" by 6" by 2", the BJC-70 is smaller than a laptop computer. The printer's lids opens to create a paper support for its sheet feeder. The Canon BJC-70 ink cartridges are capable of printing black and white documents at a rate of about three pages per minute.
Resolution is rated at 720 x 360 dpi for black and white and 360 x 360 dpi for color. The printers' built-in paper support can hold and feed up to 30 sheets of letter-size paper at a time. The paper feeder can also handle up to 10 sheets of photo paper or 5 envelopes. The Canon BJC-70 ink cartridges can be swapped depending on the project at hand. One Canon BJC-70 ink jet cartridge has a print head and a black ink tank. The other has a print head and color ink tank and black ink tank.
The software packaged with the BJC-70 includes Canon's TrueType font pack and their Color Advisor. A parallel cable needs to be purchased as a separate item in order to connect the BJC-70 to a computer.
With the optional battery pack, a user can expect to print about 200 sheets before requiring a recharge. The Canon BJC-70 ink jet includes an LCD display which provides coded messages indicating printer status and troubleshooting information. Black text could print blacker according to some reviewers. A document feeder needs to be purchased as an extra, although it is a real necessity when printing any volume of pages.
Many users complain of jamming but for transportable printing, this is a low-cost choice.
