This is an updated version of the BJC5000, which is of similar dimensions. Printing speed has improved to up to 16 pages per minute for black and 4 pages per minute for color. A3 (11" x 17") capability is good if a larger print is needed, the print speed is rather slow. The Canon BJC5100 ink pricing is comparable to other brands that lean to the lower price range. Resolution is good and the results are excellent, though hardly comparible to a Phaser 8550 ink printer.
As with most brands of this class of printers, the manufacturer tries to minimize size and weight where possible. The Canon BJC5100 like the BJC5000 is 19.6 x 11.0 x 8.74 and 11.6 pounds. Black cartridges yield up to 900 pages; color 100 pages, and photo about 50. For higher-yielding models for around the same price, a laser printer using HP CP1215 toner will be a good choice.
The usual parallel interface hooks up easily with most computers. Windows platforms and Mac platforms are all compatible with this printer. The Canon BJC5100 inkjet cartridges offer good resolution. This printer offers versatility and large format (A3) format copies. A nice photo editor and optimizing software is provided free of charge.
