The Canon BJC-240 inkjet printer offers a little more speed than lower models in its line, at up to 9 pages per minute for black and 4 pages per minute for color, but it suffers from many of the same limitations, such as a parallel port and a low output resolution. Canon BJC-240 printer ink uses the same design as other models, to keep prices lower.
One of the more appealing aspects of the BJC-240 is its ultra-low purchase price, so personal users will find it fits nicely into their budget. It also fits well on a desk surface, with dimensions of only 6.8x14.2x8.5 inches and a weight of 5.5 pounds. Connecting the unit to a PC requires an available parallel port an adapter.
The input paper tray is oriented vertically and uncovered, which could mean problems with dust accumulation. It holds up to 100 sheets, however, and the paper path is relatively straight, though some user reviews mentioned issues with frequent paper jams. Others mentioned problems with output quality, which is certainly due to its limited resolution of only 720x360 dpi, and color documents are even more limited, at only 360x360 dpi.
Problems continue with the printer ink supplies, with Canon BJC-240 ink cartridges that have small page yields and somewhat expensive prices. The tricolor Canon BJC-240 ink cartridge included with the unit supplies a maximum of 200 pages, and an optional black supply can provide up to 480 pages. The latter is recommended to avoid having the tricolor Canon BJC-240 ink used to create "composite black".
Budget-priced home inkjet models don't usually offer a lot of speed or quality compared to more expensive models, but the BJC-240 tends to fall a little below even some of the models in its price range. As a result, it is difficult to recommend.
