The Canon BJC-210 takes a step up from the more portable BJC-150 model, as a desktop inkjet printer with a little more capacity and flexibility. It still suffers from slow speeds, however, at a maximum of 3 pages per minute in black and 2 pages per minute in color, and buyers may find themselves spending a lot on Canon BJC-210 printer ink over its lifetime.
Although it is certainly larger than its portable brother, the BJC-210 is still quite compact, with a vertical orientation that gives it a small footprint of only 7.1x13.8 inches, and a height of 8.3 inches. The expanded media tray is a solid upgrade, capable of holding 100 sheets of plain paper, which should be a good fit for personal use.
The machine also supports a decent variety of media types, such as glossy photo paper, greeting cards, transparencies, envelopes, and more. It can also handle media up to 8.5x14 inches in size. Users with more modern computers may find its parallel port connection to be a major downside, however, and will probably need a USB adapter to get it connected, adding to the upfront costs.
Printer ink is another concern, as the unit includes only a tricolor Canon BJC-210 ink cartridge. A second black Canon BJC-210 ink cartridge is optional, but is recommended to help save on costs, as those who print a lot of black will find the "composite black" created by the tricolor Canon BJC-210 ink supply will deplete it quickly.
For a home user, a college student, or another individual with very basic needs, the affordable price and slim design of the BJC-210 inkjet printer could be a good choice. Others might find its slow speeds, average output quality disappointing, and there are certainly better models in its class.
