The Canon 1060 is first a foremost a dedicated fax machine, but it also has the ability to print and copy. It has a 30-sheet automatic document feeder for faxes and copies, but no flatbed scanning surface. As a result, the Canon LaserClass 1060 is limited to copying and faxing only documents that can be fed through the automatic document feeder, ruling out books and any other large, bound, or stapled media. Still, for occasional copying, it functions quite well.
The fax machine supports Super G3 transmission speeds up to 33.6 kbps, but can slow the speed down to accommodate slower fax machines. The unit functions as a fax machine in standalone mode, without the need for a computer, but it can also fax directly from the computer, a very handy feature. This is ideal for sending documents to users who prefer to receive faxes instead of emails. The fax machine can store up to 250 pages in its memory for later retrieval, which avoids losing faxes when you run out of paper.
Canon 1060 toner cartridges are easy to access and replace. Each Canon 1060 toner cartridge has a capacity of 2,700 pages. Third-party compatible laser toner cartridges are a much more economical option, as they are much less expensive than the OEM cartridges from Canon.
As a laser printer, the Canon LaserCLASS 1060 does an adequate job. Its print speed is a bit slow, at 6 pages per minute. Print quality is quite good, however, with very sharp and detailed text. Graphics quality is below average, but still adequate for most needs.
Overall, the Canon 1060 is an excellent fax machine that has the added benefit of copying and printing functionality. Despite its slow printing speeds, the Canon 1060 may be all a small office needs.
