The Brother Corporation was started in 1908 as a sewing company in Nagayo Japan, and it wasn't until 1971 that they started to produce printers and the respective printer cartridge. Brother has implemented a single pass laser printing system in virtually every model they produce and sell. A single pass toner transfer system transfers all of the toner to the document in a single motion as the name implies. This is accomplished using an array of LED's that uses less energy and improves the environmental impact of printing technologies. Since the LED's are used to transfer the toner there are fewer moving parts to break or need maintenance.
The LED array also allows the printer to apply toner in a more uniform manner. A traditional laser printer uses asset of rotating mirrors to apply the toner in no fewer than 4 passes which can result in misplaced color or fading in complex documents and images. The array allows all of the toner to be placed on the document at one time keeping the page aligned for only that single pass. This reduces the amount of discarded prints and lowers a consumer's cost per page for full color and monochromatic documents for a variety of media types.
Brother has also developed a new business print engine to satisfy growing demands in the business arena. This printer engine adjusts for paper size and weight and will allow monochrome documents to print even when the color laser toner cartridge is depleted. This helps any office or busy workgroup keep printing a large batch without interruption or loss of productivity decreasing wasted time. The print engine also enables businesses and workgroups to print monochrome and color documents at the same speed increasing productivity and reducing the cost per page saving money and time.
