The Brother HL-2070N is a monochrome laser printer designed for the small networked office environment. It produces high-quality text prints and has solid print speeds, but its low capacities make it best-suited for small workgroups only. It also will be a lot more affordable to maintain then some competing models.
The HL-2070N is a very compact laser printer. It not only has a small footprint, but it measures only 6.5 inches high, taking up very little vertical space as well. It includes USB and ethernet ports, allowing it to be easily shared across a network of users.
While the HL-2070N is meant to be a network printer, its small capacities will become a problem if it is shared among too many users. Therefore, it is not recommended for an office that expects to expand in the future. Its input paper capacity is 250 sheets, and no options are available to expand this capacity, nor can its 16 MB of memory be upgraded in the future. The 250-sheet paper drawer is an actual drawer, somewhat rare for a printer at this price point, and a manual slot is included for feeding other types of media, though they have to be fed one sheet at a time, which could become annoying if needed often.
This is not to say that the HL-2070N won't make a small network of users very happy. Its fast print speeds of 16 pages per minute are particularly impressive. Print quality is also excellent, with sharp, defined text as the highlight, and decent graphics print quality.
The HL-2070N includes a starter toner cartridge with a capacity of only 1,500 pages. This is particularly disappointing for a networked printer, as a small network will consume the starter cartridge quickly. The replacement toner capacity is 2,500 pages, so later replacements will be less frequent.
Overall, the Brother HL-2070N is a solid small office printer provided the shared network of users is small. Offices anticipating growth may want to look for a printer with more expandability for the future.

Brother HL-2070 Instructional Video Transcript
This video will show you how to change the toner cartridge in your Brother HL-2070 laser printer.
The Brother HL-2070 has the faster speeds of the similar HL-2040 model, at up to 20 pages per minute, and also adds the convenience of an ethernet port for networking, with an option to add wireless support. It has a first page out time of less than 10 seconds, for a fast response, and its 250-sheet paper tray is a good fit for a personal user or a shared home environment.
The toner LED on the front panel alerts users when HL-2070 toner cartridge is running low by flashing. A solid light means it is time to replace the cartridge.
Press the power button to turn the HL-2070 off. Although the model shown here is slightly different in appearance, the process is the same. Open the front access panel and grab the handle to pull the cartridge and drum assembly out as one unit.
Place the whole assembly on a piece of paper to protect your surface from spills. Then push down on the blue lever to remove the Brother HL-2070 cartridge from the drum unit.
Open the box and remove the HL-2070 toner cartridge. Then carefully remove the packing materials and bag. Rock the cartridge side to side several times. This distributes the toner more evenly. Lastly, remove the protective cover.
Slide the new HL-2070 toner cartridge into the drum assembly and snap it into place, noting that the blue lever snaps upward.
Before you replace the assembly, take a moment to clean the corona wire. At the rear of the assembly, slide the blue tab back and forth several times. Then lock it back into its starting position.
Slide the entire assembly back into the machine, and close the cover. Then turn the HL-2070 back on with the power button. Once the cartridge is recognized, the toner LED should no longer light up.
You are now ready to resume printing with your Brother HL-2070 printer.
