The Brother HL-1250 is a monochrome laser printer designed for the small office or home user. It has excellent print quality, and even some expandability for the future. Lack of a network port is a small downside for some users.
The Brother HL-1250 is a simple, straightforward personal laser printer that offers what most personal users need: high-quality prints and relatively fast speeds. It is also fairly compact, allowing it to fit into tight office spaces, and possibly even share a desk with a computer in some cases. The unit measures 9.3 inches by 14.2 inches by 14.6 inches, and weighs only 20 pounds, which means it can be easily moved around. Other Brother printers are lighter due to smaller toner, like Brother TN210C toner.
Paper capacity is 250 sheets in its single standard drawer. The printer has a single-sheet manual feed slot for alternate paper types, but it lacks a multipurpose tray. This will be a downside for users who use more than one type or size of paper often, as it means clearing out the drawer before loading a new type of paper. For the average user this won't be a big concern. If 250 sheets isn't enough, a second drawer can be added as an upgrade with a capacity of 250 sheets, bringing the total capacity to 500 sheets. This expandability is rare for personal printers, and a nice bonus.
Brother HL-1250 toner cartridges have a capacity of 3,000 pages, or 6,000 pages in the high-yield cartridge size. Replacing the Brother HL-1250 toner cartridges are very affordable, resulting in a low cost per page. Print speed is around 12 pages per minute, which is about average for the printer's price and class. Print quality is excellent across the board. One caveat of the HL-1250, though, is that Mac users are limited to 300 dpi printing, rather than the full 600 dpi.
Overall, the Brother HL-1250 is an excellent personal printer with good expandability. Mac users may want to look elsewhere due to reduced print quality.
