Ink Technologies is closed Thursday, November 26th, and Friday, November 27th, for the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Orders placed after 3:30pm on Wednesday, November 25th will be shipped on Monday, November 30th.
Visually, the Brother DCP-J140W multifunction inkjet printer looks like a larger all-in-one that has been flattened, but its compact frame is one of its most appealing aspects. It is rated for speeds up to 33 pages per minute in black and 27 pages per minute in color, and its low price will appeal to home users and college students with a small budget, as will the affordability of Brother DCP-J140W printer ink supplies.
The DCP-J140W certainly seems designed to include only the most basic features, in order to achieve such a low price point. It does include wireless networking for a shared environment, as well as a USB for a direct connection, but it lacks an ethernet port for wired use. It doesn't include the full complement of mobile features of more expensive models, such as AirPrint compatibility, but the Brother iPrint&Scan app can provide many of the same functionality. With no memory card slots or front USB port, users can't print from the inkjet device itself.
The flatbed scanner can handle sizes up to 8.5x11.7 inches, but there is not automatic document feeder, so scanning many pages at once will be slow. Scans can be sent to email addresses as digital documents, which can save on Brother DCP-J140W printer ink, and OCR software is included to make scanned documents editable.
With four separate colors of Brother DCP-J140W ink cartridges, users can replace only the supply that is empty, reducing waste. Although prices for OEM supplies are pretty reasonable, compatible Brother DCP-J140W ink cartridges are available from many third-party vendors for even less.
Buyers shouldn't expect a lot of high-end features in the Brother DCP-J140W, but for simple printing, copying, and scanning at an affordable price, it is hard to beat. Its space-saving design is impressive, and its basic mobile printing options are useful.
