The Brother DCP-9045 is a multifunction color laser printer designed for the small or medium office environment. Good speed and quality combined with networking and good scanning abilities make the DCP-9045 a great choice for a small office. For faster print speeds, consider the Brother MFC-9420 toner printer.
The DCP-9045 includes the ability to print, scan, and copy, but has no faxing capabilities built-in. Copies can be reduced and enlarged from 25-400%, and the unit supports duplex copying as well as N-up copies, which allow the user to print 2 or more pages on a single one-sided sheet.
Scanning is one of the DCP-9045's most well-designed features. Paper can be scanned either with the large flatbed scanning surface or the 50-sheet automatic document feeder, at resolutions up to 2400 dpi with a 24-bit color depth. Scanned documents can either be sent to a network-connected computer or an FTP server, local or on the web. When connected via USB, the scanner can send scans directly to the attached computer. The DCP-9045 also has a front-mounted USB port, which allows users to scan to and print from a USB thumb drive, a very convenient feature.
The DCP-9045 supports both Windows and Macintosh computers, and can support all functions either directly connected to either platform or over the network.
Print speed is very good, at around 20 pages per minute in both color and monochrome. Scans and copies are very fast. Even color copies only take around 17 seconds to complete, including scanning and printing time. Print quality is excellent, with sharp, defined text and decent graphics quality. Color printing is above average for a laser. Letters are a bit less-defined than monochrome, but still excellent.
Toner capacities for the Brother DCP-9045 toner cartridges are available with a capacity of 2,500 pages for black and 1,500 for each color. There is also a much more economical high-yield option for the Brother DCP-9045 toner cartridges, consisting of 5,000 page yield for the black toner cartridge and 4,000 for each color.
