The Brother DCP-7020 is a multifunction monochrome laser printer designed for the personal or small office user. Fast printing speeds and an affordable price make it a very attractive printer, as long as you don't need faxing capabilities.

The DCP-7020 is very affordably-priced, making it a great choice for the personal or small office user on a budget. Given its multifunction features of printing, scanning, and copying, you get a lot of bang for the buck as well. The unit does not include faxing capabilities, which will probably be less of an issue for its intended small office users, but some buyers may need it. It also does not offer color printing, so for that consider a model that uses Samsung CLP-M300A toner.

The design of the DCP-7020 is very compact. It measures 11.6 inches by 15.6 inches by 17 inches (HWD) and weighs 20.7 pounds. Its small footprint allows it to fit into relatively small space. In fact, personal users may be able to share a desktop with it if they have a fairly large desk.

Even though the printer is monochrome, scanning can be done in color. The unit supports scanning up to a resolution of up to 2400 dpi with a 24-bit color depth. Media can be scanned either on the flatbed scanning surface or fed through the unit's automatic document feeder, which can hold up to 35 sheets. The unit can hold its own quite well as a standalone copier, copying at around 20 pages per minute without needing to be connected to a computer.

Print quality is excellent. Text is the standout, but graphics quality is also above average for a laser, with no obvious flaws showing up in graphics prints. Print speed is quite good at up to 20 pages per minute, especially impressive given the price of the printer. For higher quality graphics, maybe consider the Oki C5500 that features Okidata 43324403 toner.

Brother DCP-7020 toner cartridges have a capacity of 2,500 pages, although the starter cartridge included with the unit has a capacity of only 1,500 pages. The starter Brother DCP-7020 toner cartridge will run out fairly quickly, but the replacement toner cartridge has a more reasonable page yield. The toner is much more affordable too than many other products, like Samsung CLT-C409S toner.

Overall, the Brother DCP-7020 is a well-designed printer with excellent speed and print quality for the price. Its lack of faxing capabilities is only a small downside.
